Anna Marie Raven: Ghost Rider

A skin-to-skin contact with Johnny Blaze, the Ghost Rider, went horribly wrong. Now, Rogue bears the curse as well.

I.Avengers Unity Division was formed by Steve Rogers after certain events, to show the world that mutants and humans (and Gods) could cooperate together and make the world a better place. Rogue joined the team alongside Wolverine and Havok, as well as Wanda Maximoff with whom she wasn't on the best terms – but for the sake of Unity, she was ready to put these differences behind. Fully in control of her powers, Rogue made a powerful and useful asset for the team, able to absorb several powers at once without hurting others. However, this cooperation didn't last long. An accident with Ghost Rider happened; the Spirit of Vengeance was nigh unstoppable when enraged. The Unity Squad was joined by others, like Doctor Strange, who made attempts to stop the madness. But it was exactly Rogue that made a move, jumping by Wanda's command at the enraged Rider and stealing his powers, thus stopping the powerful being and ending the fight.Victory came at a cost. Rogue absorbed Blaze's curse into herself, suffering so much in the process, she begged Johnny to take it all back. Being a good man, Johnny couldn't leave her like that, and even though Rogue having the curse gave him freedom, he knew it was his baggage and his duty, and so he took the curse back.It seemed like Avengers won that day. Hell, yeah, they did. But for Rogue, this was actually a day where all the troubles began.

II.Truth is, Zarathos was ripped apart that day. Behind all the pain, neither Rogue nor Johnny noticed how the demon left a trace behind, just a chunk of its soul, small enough to not to be noticed, but strong enough to eventually grow as time passed. As the mutant went on with life, it grew within her, without knowledge of its purpose, and gathered strength...until several weeks after the incident. That's when the Spirit of Vengeance awoke during a bar fight, in a moment when someone needed to be protected; the spirit completely took control over Rogue's body and punished those who deserved it. As soon as the mutant was conscious again and understood what happened, she sought out Blaze and begged him for help. Albeit angry and unwilling to assist at first, Johnny agreed to help her with the whole Ghost Rider mumbojumbo.Insecure about what comes next, and not really confident about her self-control capabilities, Rogue decided to leave everyone and everything behind, laying low until she figures out how to control the Rider, thus avoiding hurting someone she holds dear by accident, and only keeping occasional contact with Steve Rogers.Feeling like she doesn't have much to lose or to fight for, Rogue stayed solo for a while, slowly but steadily gaining control of the Spirit within her, shaping it as she wanted it to be, learning how to play with fire (literally), and other things; also growing close with Blaze while at it - initially the two kind of hated each other, but things changed for better, evolving from a strictly master-apprentice thing to a much warmer relationship. For now, Rogue was just glad she could take control when going into what she called a "matchstick mode". That took her a relatively short period of time, mostly due to her previous experience with sharing her body with other entities. But that leaved an open question: does anyone still want to deal with her after she suddenly went AWOL, and are all the bridges burned?
Turns out they weren't.

III.Even after extensive Terrigen exposure Rogue managed to survive, and save a few people while at it. The same day, she was recruited by Steve Rogers again, to be a part of a new Unity Squad. Despite the fact Rogue hasn't worked with the team for a long time (as in, ever since she left), things seemed to go more or less smooth between them, despite the obvious tension between the mutant and Synapse, the inhuman member of the team. The rookie Ghost Rider wasn't sure if she was in the right place, but Doctor Voodoo promised to keep the Spirit of Vengeance at bay, should this ever be needed, and Human Torch would help with the flame part; she'd get really close with the latter over the course of time, but still kept him at some distance, for many reasons. The team worked well: Captain America, Rogue, Quicksilver, Deadpool, Human Torch, Synapse, Voodoo and Wonder Man were pretty darn great together until Red Skull stepped in with his mind control mumbojumbo. Rogue was the number one person ready to rip him apart, craving vengeance, and not only because a certain spirit wanted her to. Luckily, they managed to get Schmidt down eventually, even though Rogue got badly injured while fighting mind-controlled Wonder Man in the process. This caused her to snap out of control once again and cause a huge hellfire blast that killed Red Skull and his daughter.Understanding that she still is dangerous to be around (despite the other teammates telling her otherwise), Rogue left once again, this time only coming back to help them, but mostly because she turned up at the right place at the right time, for example when the Grandmaster and the Challenger turned mother Earth to their playground; that's when the Spirit of Vengeance shined once again.

IV.Still, Anna Marie had to put all her focus on mastering her control over the Spirit of Vengeance, her hellfire skills, and all that jazz. At this point she was pretty much alright with being who she has become, mostly because it hasn't ruined her life just yet...So, Rogue continued picking up more and more Ghost Rider skills from Johnny Blaze...till the day he went to Vegas and never came back, sacrificing himself in order to defeat Mephisto. That loss didn't go well with her, leaving her devastated, traumatized and angry. Eventually, the mutant had to make peace with the fact that even though Blaze isn't in the realm of living anymore, he still exists in Hell, the throne of which he currently resides on. Eventually, Rookie had to move on, going through life by herself. She wanted to become a Ghost Rider that even the king of Hell (and most importantly, she herself) would be proud of; for even though she wasn't the most powerful one, she could still show plenty of her enemies who's the damn boss. And so, she went on without relying on Blaze's mentorship, trying to live her life while also keeping the spirit of Vengeance at bay, her sanity intact, and her relationship with the other known Ghost Riders somewhat peaceful.
